Thank you for signing up for one of online live stream workshops!

We will send further instructions closer to the date, but for now here are some helpful things to know.

The Platform:
We will be using the Zoom platform to host this workshop.  Zoom is a remarkably easy to use platform with a capacity to keep things interactive and engaging.  Participants are able to see each other and interact and the instructor is able to see participants as well.  The platform is able to float audience member faces in front of the instructors so that they still feel connected, and they can still do demonstrations and answer questions.  There is also capacity to do online breakout rooms so that registrants can have smaller face to face group discussions.  We can even still network during breaks!

We’ll be sending the Zoom meeting link and password 1-2 days before the workshop and again one hour before the workshop starts.  All you have to do is click the link and enter the password.

What’s needed at minimum:

  • A computer/laptop/smart phone that has a built in webcam and microphone (or separate webcam/microphone are fine too)
  • (If you don’t have a camera or microphone you can still participate using text chat; the experience just won’t be quite as interactive in that case).
  • An Internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE). Recommended bandwidth is MINIMUM 1.5 Mbps for both upload and download speeds, but the higher the better. We recommend 5 Mbps or higher. Check your Internet bandwidth using Speedtest (Just click “go”).
  • Headphones or ear buds

To ensure the best experience with the least likelihood of technical issues:

In some areas there are some internet carriers experiencing capacity issues because of the higher than usual demand for internet access. If you have been experiencing connectivity problems, we highly recommend following the steps below - but even if you haven't had connectivity issues the following steps will help to reduce any technical issues on the day of:

  • Use a laptop or desktop computer rather than a phone/tablet
  • Download the “Zoom Client for Meetings” desktop app in advance at https://zoom.us/download  **
  • (Or if you must use your smart phone download the app called ZOOM Cloud Meetings)
  • Make sure you have updated to the latest version of Zoom.
  • Hardwire your internet via ethernet cable directly to the computer.  If your computer doesn’t have an ethernet port, there are inexpensive USB ethernet adapters available through places like Best Buy and Amazon.
  • If you can't hardwire, bring your computer or device closer to the WiFi router or access point  in your home or office
  • Ensure that others in the household are not using the internet to stream videos (including on their phone using the Wifi), watch Netflix or Youtube etc.  Video streaming services use up a lot of bandwidth.
  • Close out any applications that you don't need for the meeting
  • Close all other browser windows

Please note:

This will be an interactive workshop, and the best way to ensure this is to have as many people’s cameras on as possible during the day.  So please come prepared to be seen and heard.  We wanted to mention this so there were no surprises!  That said, you will have the ability to turn your cameras and mics off at any point in time.

If you have any unanswered questions about the platform or anything that you need to know in advance, please email them to info@missionempowerment.ca

We will do our very best to provide a smooth trouble-free online experience. If technical problems do occur, we will do our best to fix them and one of our staff members will be available to help on the day of if anything arises. We will be providing their contact info in the email the day before the workshop.

Looking forward to “seeing” you soon!
