Workshop Description
What does it mean to truly flourish? Many people are functioning well enough but sense that something is missing—they want to feel more engaged, fulfilled, and content in their lives. Positive psychology is the scientific study of what allows individuals and communities to thrive, going beyond the treatment of mental illness to explore evidence-based practices that enhance well-being, meaning, and personal growth. Research shows that flourishing isn’t just about feeling good—it’s also protective. The higher someone is on the well-being scale, the greater the buffer they have against depression and other mental health challenges, making it less likely for difficulties to spiral into distress.
When the field of positive psychology first emerged, it focused on studying people who were already flourishing—seeking to understand what set them apart. Over time, researchers began applying these insights to those who were functioning adequately but not thriving, with the goal of helping them move toward greater well-being. Eventually, clinicians began integrating positive psychology interventions into treatment for clients with depression and anxiety and found that these strategies made a significant impact. In fact, research shows that clinical populations often experience even greater gains in well-being than the general population when using these interventions. While positive psychology is not a replacement for traditional therapies, it serves as a powerful complement to existing treatments and can also play a key role in preventing mental health challenges before they arise.
This workshop is designed for professionals seeking evidence-based strategies they can integrate into their work, as well as for individuals looking to cultivate a deeper sense of well-being, vitality, and engagement in their personal lives. We’ll explore research-backed approaches that promote resilience, optimism, and fulfillment, along with practical interventions that can be applied both personally and professionally.
A two-week break between sessions 2 and 3 is intentionally built into the program to allow participants time to practice and reflect on the positive psychology interventions covered in class.
